Turns out the dogs suffer as much as we do after a 10-hour flight. Except for them it was undoubtedly more confusing since they had to watch us pack up the house for a week, thinking they were going to be left behind, and when that was over, they got shoved into a van for a drive to Portland. After a night in a tiny hotel room near PDX, we shoved them back into their kennels where they stayed for 12 hours until we landed in Frankfurt. I don’t know who was better off though: Us in our seats in the cabin of the plane—or them down below, where they could actually stand up and turn around in their kennels. I’m thinking they got the better deal. But they finally got their first sniffs (and potties and meals) in Germany, literally alongside the autobahn! at a rest stop on the way to Stuttgart/Böblingen. Here’s a picture of Chloe the next day, looking none too pleased. Or maybe that’s how she always looks…
